Bo Borland For me, it was always about the music! My heroes have always been cowboys, pickers and songwriters. There are only two types of music to me, music I like and music I don't. No value judgments! I grew up listening to the early rock hits, old school Motown, classic and southern rock, the Beatles, all the great music from the last 40 years. Big Band swing of the 30-40s and eras of country, jazz, classical, alt, punk .. I listen to everything and learn from it all. But I think my all time favorite that encompasses all that music can be is western swing...As Waylon said, "it don't matter who's in Austin, Bob Wills is still the king!” Musically I am the sum of everything I have ever heard so why not listen to everything I can. I remember when I first saw somebody play a guitar. It was about 6 a.m., I was about 5 years old and that was it for me. Someone gave me an old Stella guitar and I started playing. My mother told me I could pick out melodies right away and I am so glad she encouraged me. I played my first gig at about age 12 and never looked back. It was about the same time that I first hear a steel guitar. I didn’t know what it was, but I loved the sounds it made. Sadly, I didn’t get a chance to even see one up close until I was about 25. I traded a couple of guitars away to get the first new one I saw in a store. It was true love! I have other interests but practice and learning new things on the steel is the thing that I go to every chance I get. Over the last 25 years, I have played with lots of bands in lots of clubs all over the US, this band, MGB kicks as much butt as any I ever played with. Come out an have some fun with us!
